Ollie & Leila's Favourite Christmas Bedtime Stories

Ollie & Leila's Favourite Christmas Bedtime Stories

Whilst we all know that Christmas is a time for tinsel, mince pies, and let’s not forget the all-important presents! It is also the perfect time to snuggle up in bed with your little ones and read them a festive story to help get you all in the mood for Christmas! It may also help coax your children in to bed that little bit quicker (fingers crossed!)

Here are our favourites:

How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr Seuss

You can never go wrong with Dr Seuss, and this Christmas classic is one of his best. Telling the story of the Grinch, an angry, cave dwelling creature who hates Christmas and all that celebrate it.  However, in his determination to ruin the celebrations for the residents of the local town, Whosville, he soon begins to discover the true meaning of Christmas.

The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg

A magical book with stunning illustrations that tells the story of a boy who boards a mysterious train, bound for the North Pole. When he arrives, he meets Father Christmas who offers him any gift he wishes. He asks for simply a bell from one of the reindeer’s harnesses. The bell is very special though and can only be heard by people who believe in Father Christmas.

Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs

In this hilarious book by the author of The Snowman, Father Christmas is a grumpy old man who finds Christmas absolutely “bloomin’” knackering! There is also a follow-up book, Father Christmas Goes On Holiday, which is equally as enjoyable.

The Jolly Christmas Postman by Allen and Janet Ahlberg

If you’ve ever read the Jolly Postman you will know how wonderful this series of books are, and the Christmas special doesn’t fail to disappoint. We follow the Jolly Postman as he delivers Christmas-related post to various fairy-tale characters. Each letter is kept in its own envelope which your child can open and read, making it a fantastic interactive story.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis

This classic story takes through a wardrobe into the magical world of Narnia, a land frozen in eternal winter and enslaved by the power of the White Witch. A truly wonderful, fantastical and enchanting story.
